Denmark approves amendments to regulations on phthalates in toys and children’s care products

On June 26, 2020, the Danish Ministry of the Environment and Food issued the Executive Order No. 947 of 2020 "Administrative Order on the Prohibition of Phthalates in Toys and Child Care Products". The order will take effect on July 1, 2020. Administrative Order No. 855 of 2009 was repealed.

Similar to the previous administrative order (Administrative Order No. 855 of 2009), the Administrative Order No. 947 of 2020 prohibits the content of phthalates in toys, child care articles and their components to exceed 0.05% (by mass) .

Phthalates controlled by the new administrative order do not include phthalates controlled by the following regulations:

a. Annex II of Administrative Order No. 309 of 2017 "Administrative Order on Toy Safety Requirements";

b. Items 51 and 52 of Appendix XVII of EU REACH Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006.

At the same time, the phthalate requirements of the new executive order do not apply to items intended to come into contact with food.
